Abdominoplasty

Cosmetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Specialist located in Centennial, CO

What is abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure also known as a tummy tuck.

The goal of abdominoplasty is to improve the appearance and shape of your abdomen by tightening skin and removing any excess. Dr. Oswald can also restore the strength of your abdominal muscles.

Estetica Nova offers comprehensive abdominoplasty services on an outpatient basis. Dr. Oswald also specializes in extended abdominoplasty, a procedure that targets fat on your lower back and flanks (love handles) to improve the contours of your midsection.

Am I a candidate for abdominoplasty?

You might be a candidate for the abdominoplasty services at Estetica Nova if you’re unhappy with the appearance of loose, sagging skin on your abdomen. These cosmetic issues can occur due to:

  • Aging
  • Pregnancy
  • Significant weight loss
  • C-section or other abdominal surgery

Dr. Oswald also has extensive experience in abdominal reconstruction after bariatric surgery for weight loss.

Abdominoplasty may not be an option for you if you plan to have children, have severe health issues, or have a body mass index (BMI) over 30. Dr. Oswald reviews your current health and medical history to determine if you’re a candidate for abdominoplasty. She also discusses your expectations for surgical results.

What can I expect during and after my abdominoplasty?

During your abdominoplasty, Dr. Oswald focuses on removing the skin and fat between your pubic region and belly button and repositions the skin to give your abdomen a firmer, more toned appearance.

If you’re having an extended abdominoplasty, she removes and repositions fat in your lower back and flanks. Dr. Oswald can also use permanent sutures to tighten and strengthen the connective tissue over your abdominal muscles. To minimize your risk for scars, she makes all incisions in the natural creases of your abdomen.

You can expect to spend time recovering from anesthesia before going home. Dr. Oswald shows you how to care for your incisions and replace bandages to prevent infection. You also need to start walking soon after surgery to prevent blood clots and wear a compression garment to minimize swelling.

Plan to limit your activities for about six weeks to protect your incisions. Dr. Oswald also schedules follow-up visits to assess your post-surgical recovery.
